Super Visa is an option for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit their families in Canada. With Super Visa, they can visit their family in Canada for up to 2 years at a time. They will not have to worry about renewing their status. The Visa is issued for up to 10 years
Super Visa Insurance Requirements
To Obtain a Super Visa, some conditions have to be met.
- Applicants must have a valid emergency medical insurance
- Insurance must be valid for 1 year
- It has to be from a Canadian Insurance company
- Insurance must cover emergency medical care, hospitalization, and repatriation
- Must provide minimum coverage of $100,000.
- Is valid for each entry to Canada and available for review by a port of entry officer
Coverage
In case of an emergency, this insurance can cover for
- Road or Air ambulance services,
- hospitalization,
- treatment by a physician or surgeon,
- cost of x-rays and other basic diagnostic tests,
- In-hospital services and supplies necessary to treat the emergency,
- prescription drugs to a certain maximum,
- accidental dental and
- return of remains or cost of cremation or burial at the place of death.
The amount and benefits offered by companies vary. Therefore it is important to pay attention to these and the policy wordings. Please check with your insurance advisor about these before buying an insurance policy.
One thing you have to understand is that it is Emergency Medical Insurance. Therefore, it will cover you in case of a sudden or urgent happening that occurs during your trip to Canada and requires immediate action. It will not cover your regular doctor visits.
Some examples of emergency medical situations can be
- Pneumonia,
- Chest Pain,
- Fall on Ice breaking a hip bone,
- a gallbladder attack,
- complications from kidney stones.
It will not cover any routine or general physical examinations, a visit to a doctor to replace or renew a prescription or cosmetic or elective surgery.
